High Tech Clothing…What does that mean and why should you care?

By definition “technical clothing” is a blend of fabric, fashion and most importantly, science. Whether you are a professional player or a weekend sports warrior, chances are you will play in inclement weather on occasion. High Tech clothes, constructed from fabrics that wick moisture away from the body, are designed to keep you warm and dry from the outside in while providing the most natural ease of movement so your clothing does not interfere with your game.

Sunice has emerged as a leader in the high tech outerwear clothing industry.

They create innovative design, using durable construction and blend fashion-forward styling with the latest in technical specialty fabrics.

“Sunice emerged in 1976 in Calgary as a dynamic new brand in skiwear. Their desire to raise the profile of their brand showed itself literally in 1982, when they outfitted a team making Canada’s first ever attempt to summit Everest. The ascent continued in 1988 when the pioneering brand was selected as an Official Supplier to the Winter Olympics in Calgary.

Following its Olympic success, Sunice decided to plant its flag in a new industry. The Sunice golf outerwear line was introduced in 1992, offering quality on par with their ski gear.

Today Sunice is recognized as the #1 Canadian Golf outerwear brand, and is worn by numerous professionals on both the American and European PGA Tour, and LPGA Tour. Thanks in large part to their commitment to designing a superior technical Performance Layering System. Sunice is also the only golf wear company in the world to boast the X-Static® Silver technology as a part of their polo program. Sunice backs all waterproof outerwear with a waterproof guarantee.”

Have you tried taking on the golf course in outerwear from Sunice?

Even though Mother Nature seems to be teasing most geographical locations with only a hint of spring, it truly is that time of year again. For most of us spring means many things; daffodils in bloom, open windows and cool breezes, the smell of freshly cut grass, dining alfresco…and of course, cleaning out our closets.

Many of us put off the task because it seems so monumental or wonder why we should bother. It’s much more frightening in our minds than in reality. Finding the time and energy in our hectic lives to accomplish this task will save time and energy on a daily basis. Facing the closet every morning is much worse when you can’t find what you are looking for because it’s squeezed between obsolete clothing in an unorganized, jam packed closet.

We at The Clotheshound understand the terror that can accompany what may seem like such a daunting task and are here to help.

Devote a set time to face your closet. Give yourself a 2 hour time limit. If the job is not completed within 2 hours then either push on, or set another 2 hour block of time within a week of your first pass at it.

Wear something comfortable and easy to take on and off. You may need to try on several items during this exercise.

Start by understanding what size you are. If you, like many of us, have several items in your wardrobe that no longer fit, either because you have gained or lost weight, it is time to let them go. Start left to right looking at the tags on each item. Every time you come across the wrong size, pull it out of your closet once and for all. If you are unsure of fit then try it on.

Understand your current style. If you no longer appreciate wide leg pants, or short skirts, or a certain color, then it’s time to remove those items from your wardrobe. Start left to right again and LOOK at each item. Does it fit with your current style? Do you like the color? Have you worn it in the past year? If the answer is “no” then let it go.

Now that you have removed all articles of clothing that you no longer need or want, it’s time to look at your accessories. Start with shoes, then move on to belts, and scarves, and ladies, don’t forget your purses. You probably have several piled up that you no longer use.

Once you are down to ONLY the items you want to keep sort and hang your clothes into categories; casual, dress/business casual, business and evening wear.

Do the same with your shoes.

Hang accessories that can be hung; belts, ties and scarves. there are several different hangar options for accessories. If you do not have enough hanging space to display all of your accessories, then put them in clear plastic bins (with covers so they can be stacked). Each accessory type should have it’s own bin; belts, scarves, ties, purses)

You’ve done it! Now assess your wardrobe. Do you have a skirt you purchased but never wear because there is no coordinating top? Is there a shirt and tie to match that sport coat? Do you have shoes to fit every outfit?

Celebrate your success with a shopping trip to fill in your wardrobe blanks.

What to do with everything you don’t want? Donate it. There are several charitable organizations for donating clothing. Dress for Success provides women with business clothes for job interviews and beginning a career, empowering them to create a positive life for themselves and their families. Goodwill resells clothing and other household items at their retail locations for a nominal price to sponsor family, education and job training programs. Last year 80,000 people in the US were assisted by Goodwill.

Therefore our promotion for Sunday (today only) is 15% off any order of $72 or more. Use code 15BIRD at Tuttle Catalog checkout.

We are announcing Monday’s Masters’ Promotion today to have some fun and put a little thought into the game! If the winner scores 0-9 under par, take 15% off any order equal to or greater than the winners total score. 10-15 strokes under earns 20% and 16+ under earns 25%. Feeling lucky? A shopper is guaranteed 15% off Sunday, but might get 5% or 10% more on Monday (Sunday’s deal expires at midnight). The code for Monday will be MASTER.

Good luck.

At a time and place where he was the most dominant and a dashing figure for more than a decade, Arnold Palmer has said he has few regrets. But the 18th hole of the 1961 event was one big, blurry, self-induced debacle. The mistake he made at Augusta National was a mental gaffe he’s talked about for five decades since. With Gary Player already in the clubhouse and trailing him by a shot, Palmer hit his approach on the final hole, arrived at the green and found his ball buried in the sand. He bladed his bunker shot over the green. He then followed with an absent-minded putt from the sloping fringe that rolled 15 feet past the hole. Then he uncharacteristically missed.

Palmer had handed the title to Player with a double-bogey, making the South African the first international winner in Masters history.

In his own words:

“I started the final round of the 1956 Masters with a four-stroke lead, but then shot 80 to lose to Jackie Burke by one. I hit 15 greens the last day but three-putted six times. The mistake I made was consciously trying to two-putt every green and just coast home. The hardest thing in golf is trying to two-putt when you have to, because your brain isn’t wired that way. You’re accustomed to trying to make putts, and when you change that mind-set, your brain short-circuits, especially under pressure.”

To anyone born after the mid 1950′s, Ken Venturi is best-known as the decades-long lead golf analyst for CBS Television. Before he was a great broadcaster, Venturi was a great golfer, one whose career was cut short by injuries, and was bookended by a famous failure and a famous success.

The famous failure: As an amateur in 1956, Venturi took the first-round lead at The Masters, and held a 4-shot lead going into the final round. But in that final round, Venturi three-putted six times and shot 80, winding up as runner-up to Jack Burke Jr. It’s been called by some one of the biggest chokes in golf history, but that round was one of the toughest scoring days ever at the Masters. Venturi’s score was only a couple above the field average.

The famous success: As a professional in 1964, Venturi battled through severe dehydration and heat exhaustion on a 36-hole, 100-degree final day at the U.S. Open, nearly collapsing on the course, but hanging on to win his only major championship.

Pro golfer Gary Player golfed the Masters at Augusta National Golf Club 52 times, winning in 1961, 1974 and 1978.

About the Man and his game:

Gary Player the Early Years & His 51st Masters

Player, living up to one of his many monickers as “The International Ambassador of Golf,” is believed to have flown more than 15 million miles traversing the globe to play golf tournaments.

While countryman Bobby Locke preceded him to the PGA Tour, the South African Player was the first international star to build a long-term presence on the PGA Tour, while also playing around the world. Along the way, Player won tournaments in 27 consecutive years, and 163 tournaments total worldwide. Player turned pro in 1953 and joined the PGA Tour in 1957. His first major championship win came at the 1959 British Open. In 1961 he became the first non-American to win the Masters. The PGA Championship followed in 1962, and when Player won the U.S. Open in 1965 he became, at the time, only the third winner of the golf career grand slam. The last of Player’s nine majors came at the 1978 Masters, where his final-round 64 propelled him from a 7-shot deficit to a 1-stroke victory.

Can you imagine the stamina it takes to travel 15 million miles, win golf’s grand slam and play the Masters 52 times?

To celebrate Gary Player and his 52 visits to the Masters Tuttle Catalog is offering **Free Shipping on orders of $52.00 or more! Enter Promo Code GP52 at checkout. ** Promotion ends at midnight tonight.

“Independent & Strong * Confident & Smart * Spirited & Proud

In a nutshell, these words describe SWING by bette & court. They define the team that produces outstanding garments for women in the United States and in over 10 countries worldwide.

These words also describe our customers, the many women worldwide, who enjoy our clothes day in and day out. These women take pride in leading active, meaningful lives and want fuss free clothing they can count on to look their best.

We were founded in 1991, as bette & court golf collection. SWING, an acronym for Sporting Women’s Innovative Gear, launched in 2004 as the performance collection for bette & court.

In 2008, bette & court and SWING, consolidated its women’s fashion and performance apparel under one name: SWING by bette & court”

"In the beginning, I wanted to be an illustrator, a painter. I really did not know what I could do. Fashion had always interested me even before I knew it was called fashion. I loved the costumes of figures in paintings and around me."

Karl Lagerfeld’s vision for the Chanel autumn/winter 2011 ready-to-wear collection features black, black and more black, sprinkled with luxurious silvery gray fabrics. “We needed a return to purity after this onslaught of color,” explained the noted designer. “It’s very chic, all of this black.”

Models took to a runway surround by a smoldering volcanic landscape to show off the new collection.

The classic “hounds tooth” pattern makes an appearance on several jackets and capes in comfortable and forgiving heavy knit fabrics.

Tuesday’s collection featured a loose interpretation of Chanel’s standard flared jacket, which is now roomier and slanted down the front.

Chunkier tops are paired with pencil thin pants and heavy ankle boots.

Women’s pant suits take on a life of their own in stunning silvery cloth with rolled hems in contrasting black.

Is Lagerfeld paying homage to Chanel with hints of the classic style or will this be too big a departure from those who know and love the brand?

“The word classic means something that is a perfect example of a particular style, something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality. The word can be an adjective (a classic car) or a noun (a classic of English literature). It denotes a particular quality in art, architecture, literature and other cultural artifacts. In commerce, products are named ‘classic’ to denote a long standing popular version or model, to distinguish it from a newer variety.
